Paraty

Paraty is located in the state of Rio de Janeiro, between Angra dos Reis in the north, Ubatuba in the south, and Cunha in the east.

A vast amount of nationally protected parks are located in and around Paraty.

The average temperature ranges between 55°F and 95°F.

Paraty is situated located in a tranquil bay with a very natural and safe harbor.  Historically speaking, the harbor was used by the Portuguese to transport gold from the countryside of Minas Gerais to the bay for travel.

This richness can still be seen today, all due to the fact that this city has been deemed a historical landmark and protected since 1966.  The city has a wonderfully ancient city center referred to as Old Town with an abundance of small shops for your shopping pleasure.

Only in the bay of Paraty can you find more than 65 islands with sandy beaches or scrumptious food from local island restaurateurs.

Paraty is surrounded by a subtropical rain forest, where the walking trails will lead you to a nature lovers dream.  The famous gold trail, constructed by slaves, can still be explored, offering you an unparalleled view of the Bay of Paratay.

Paraty also is well-known for its Cachaca, or local rum.  The ingredient commonly used in the world famous Caipirinha.  In the past, there were hundreds of distilleries manufacturing this local rum, however, today 5 of the best remain and can be toured as well.
