Ilha Grande
Located in the southeast of Brazil belonging to the city of Angra dos, Ilha Grande is the largest island of Brazil, with 120sqm, 7 bays and 106 beaches.
The island is completely protected by environmental law to keep the environment in its natural state. You will find everything on this island: from easy walking trails to challenging rough terrain to conquer in addition to beaches right out of paradise for your use to swim, snorkel or just relax in the shade provided by the huge trees lining the beach areas.
A bit of interesting news, the Ilha Grande was not utilized until 1993, as it was originally used as a prison island for political prisoners.
The most important sightseeing views:
Vila do Abraão
The most populated town on the island. Here, you will find excellent restaurants, small family owned hotels, also referred to as Pousada, drinking establishments and shops offering locally produced crafts.
Enseada das Palmas
A bay approximately 2,000 feet in length. Enseada das Palmas is a typical old fashioned small town not yet connected to electrical power and inhabited by fishermen.
Farol de Castelhanos
Lighthouse which was constructed in the 19th century originally from France located in the most eastern part of the island. Access is only via a difficult walking trail or by boat.
Praia Lopes Mendes
One of the most scenic beaches of the island, 10,000 feet in length and most famous for its crystal clear water.
Caxadaço
A bay with old houses from people who worked at the prison.
Dois Rios
A bay area where two small rivers meet to get out to sea. Crystal clear waters and flat beaches are famous here.
Saco do Banana
In historical times, the fishermen caught sardines in this area and packed them in cans. Bananas themselves have also been known to have been shipped from this city. Saco do Banana is renowned for diving explorations. It has been said that both wrecks and even a helicopter can be found while diving in this area.
Saco do Céu
We can only confirm from our personal point of view, that this area is the most beautiful place to set anchor. Snorkeling and swimming in clear blue waters with local fishermen offering the most delectable foods to enjoy.
Lago Azul
Lago Azul is a bay which has a very flat terrain and where many tourist boats dock. It is though, an ideal place to snorkel and swim.
Aventureiros
This is a bay which is approximately 1,800 feet long located in the open sea. Here, you can expect to find waves ideal for surfing or wakeboard adventures.
